During a march to Wonderfontein Station on the 1st of August, 1900, a party of about 40 Boers offered some resistance.
When close to the railway line, a timely dash of a patrol of ‘C’ Squadron, under Sergeant Parry, seized the station before the small Boer opposition could reach a cutting close by and prevent them from doing so.
The rest of the regiment was bivouacked almost two miles south of the line. ‘C’ Squadron was at this time detached from the regiment, and camped at Leeuwfontein, about five miles away, near the line towards Middleburg.
