Jim died on 31 January 2006, aged almost 92.

He enlisted at Hull on 12 December 1922 into The Cavalry of the Line. After training in the UK he was posted in December 1933 to the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars, then stationed at Hounslow. He immediately sailed with them for Egypt, where he took part in the last Mounted Parade and enjoyed all that Cairo had to offer.

He took part in the Palestine campaign with the Regiment from June to November 1936. In September 1938 he was transferred to The 3rd King’s Own Hussars and returned to the UK.

He was released to the Reserve on 13 March 1939, on which he remained until being recalled on 1 September 1939. He was posted to The Yorkshire Hussars.

He married Kathleen in Hull on 16 November 1939.

He landed in Normandy on 12 June 1944 and returned to the UK on 23 January 1945. He was posted to The Northants Yeomanry in the UK and remained with them until being released on 18 March 1946.

He was awarded The Africa Star, The Palestine Medal, France and Germany Star, The 1939/45 Star and The Defence Medal
