During the period 1 Apr 45 – 2 May 45 Major Fryer commanded a squadron of armoured infantry carriers and worked under command 2 NZ Div.

His squadron was constantly employed, often split up and at one time working alone in a different Corps to his Parent unit.

Despite these extra difficulties, Major Fryer at all times by his personal example of energy and optimism kept his entire squadron in a state of readiness to be able to carry out any task allotted to him.

He displayed outstanding zeal and cheerfulness, was regardless of personal danger and would always make himself personally aware of the situation whatever it might involve.

His exceptional power of leadership has been a major factor in the success of the KANGAROOS and in the all important team spirit so necessary with the infantry.
