This N.C.O. has been commander of a tank crew for the period 23 Oct 42 to 17 Feb 43 and has shown courage and initiative in an exceptional degree.

He has been undeterred by difficulties or by heavy hostile fire and has invariably brought his tank into effective action.

His determination and coolness under fire have been an inspiration to his crew and have filled them with confidence in his leadership.

Throughout this period he has shown conspicuous devotion to duty and disregard of danger, a particularly noteworthy example being seen near DEIR EL MUNASSIB on 25 Oct 43 when, after his tank had been disabled, he carried a wounded man to safety on his shoulders for over 300 yards under intense shell and S.A. fire.
