Lt John Walker was one of those who volunteered to help us out when we sailed for Korea. After a spell in the Re-inforcement Squadron in Kure he joined the 8th Hussars after the Imjin Battle and was for a time employed in HHQ.

When the October Battle started John Walker became one of the team of Tank Observation Officers, whose task it was to go with the leading Infantry, and direct the fire of the tanks.

It was while he was doing OP work with the 1st Bn HNF on the 6th of October 1951 that he met his death.

An RNF Officer who had been with him earlier in the day said that he had been quite magnificent, and had kept right up with the most forward elements to ensure the quickest and most accurate support.
