Arthur died on 10 February 2005, aged 74.

He enlisted as a National Serviceman at Catterick on 20 October 1949 and did his basic training with 8th RTR.

He joined the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars at Leicester East Airfield on 23 February 1950, joining ‘A’ Squadron. He moved with the regiment to Tidworth in June 1960 and sailed with them on the Empire Fowey from Southampton for Pusan, Korea, on 11 October 1950, arriving on 11 November 1950.

In June 1951 he was hospitalised and sent to Kure (Japan).

In August 1951 he was moved to Hong Kong and on 23 August 1951 embarked for the UK, arriving on 19 September 1951.

He joined the Queen’s Own Glasgow Yeomanry (TA) on 5 November 1951, serving with them until 5 April 1954, when he was discharged as medically unfit for further service. He was promoted to sergeant on 18 February 1953.

Arthur was a stalwart member of York Troop. He joined the Regimental Association in June 1996.

In civilian life, he was a crofter and, latterly, ran a bed and breakfast establishment at Glencoe.
