Francis died on 27 April 2006, aged 76. He enlisted at Doncaster on 31 July 1947 into the General Service Corps.

He transferred to the RAC on 18 September 1947 and served with The Royal Dragoons. He married Audrey on 8 December 1949.

He transferred to the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars and sailed to Korea with them from Southampton on 11 October 1950 for Pusan (Korea).

He injured his back in an accident at Kaesong just before Christmas 1950 and was eventually evacuated back to the UK, arriving on 28 February 1951, being assessed medically as ‘Home Only’.

He was posted to the RAC Depot and returned to the 8th Hussars, then stationed in Lüneburg, on 22 March 1952. He returned to the UK for discharge on 11 January 1953 and was discharged to the ‘B’ Reserve on 18 February 1963.

A son Stephen was born in May 1955.

He was a member of York Troop and joined the Regimental Association in March 1995.
