Walter joined the 8th Hussars from the 4/7 DGs in April 1938, when the Regiment was at Abassia Barracks, Cairo.

He served with them through the campaigns in the Western Desert and North-West Europe, leaving the Regiment in 1946 on demob.

Walter was a lively and cheerful man, who kept his comrades’ spirit up with his infectious humour during low times.

He came back into the fold a few years before his death and attended several Dinners in London.
