When in action on 11th December 1940 2Lt Combe while under very heavy fire saw a man of ‘A’ Squadron wounded, move from his tank which had been destroyed. without a moments hesitation 2Lt Combe leaned right out of his turret to rescue this man and was wounded in the act of doing so.
Not only did he expose himself but had to stop his tank under very heavy and accurate fire to do so.
While doing so he was badly wounded himself, but continued to control and move his tank to a place where the action was less severe and the wounded man could be attended to.
