2nd Lt James Maxwell Stubbs

James served in the First World War. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant (Cornet) in the 3rd King’s Own Hussars on 1 October 1914.

He was seconded from the 3rd Hussars to the Royal Flying Corps as a Flying Officer (Observer) on 27 September 1916 and was appointed a Flying Officer in the Military Wing of the Royal Flying Corps on 2 May 1917, with seniority from 3 July 1916.

James was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 July 1917, while remaining seconded to the RFC, but was severely wounded in aerial combat.

He was promoted to Captain in the 3rd Hussars, while remaining seconded to the new Royal Air Force on 10 October 1927.

He was given Regimental seniority from 2 April 1925 and returned to the Regiment on 17 February 1929, where he resigned his commission and moved to the Cavalry Reserve on 9 March 1929.

Captain Stubbs, having exceeded the age limit of liability to recall, ceased to belong to the Reserve of Officers on 18 November 1946.
