Robin Hoare, who recently died in Spain, was born in March 1927, the son of Reggie Hoare, who was Adjutant when Winston Churchill joined the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars, and who later commanded the Regiment from 1905 to 1909 in India and South Africa.

Commissioned in 1946, Robin joined the 4th Hussars on 23rd December, serving with CMF and BAOR, followed by a short spell in England, before embarking with the Regiment aboard HMT Dilwara Regiment’s tour in Malaya and Hong Kong with a brief return to England to gain a Regular Commission.

On the Regiment’s return to England, Robin was appointed Adjutant to The Shropshire Yeomanry, during which time he met Edith, whom he married soon after his retirement in 1954.

He took up farming at Marsh Court near to his mother’s home, and on her death, he moved into Drury Lane. He was for some time Master of the Ledbury.
