Terry Fenton joined the Army on 3rd September 1959, enlisting into The Prince of Wales’s Division.

He first joined the Irish Hussars on attachment from The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters on 18th March 1977 and transferred officially on 4th March 1978.

Terry was the Regimental Farrier and worked in the stables during all his time with the Regiment. His considerable knowledge and love of horses and his willingness to teach and help others were always evident.

When not slaving over his anvil in the stables, Terry could usually be found slaving away in the Corporals’ Mess of which he was a loyal and staunch member.

He was sorely missed by all mess members when he left the Regiment on transfer to the reserve on 3rd March 1986.

Sadly, Terry passed away suddenly in April this year. Our condolences go to all his family and friends and all who knew this considerate and caring man.

POSTSCRIPT BY THE COMMANDING OFFICER

Corporal Fenton’s love of horses and theirs for him (he would often sleep in the straw beside an injured horse he was tending) was exemplified on the day he died when he was riding his favourite horse: feeling ill, he dismounted and died quietly sitting on the ground — his horse would not leave him.

He was a proud Irish Hussar and a great supporter, particularly of the polo team — I could hear him clicking his fingers and cracking his thigh with delight as we won the Inter Regimental this year.

Cpl Fenton was a close personal friend of myself and my family, and Godfather to our youngest son. We miss him greatly.
