Bill, who died on 16 April 1987, joined the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars in July 1936 whilst they were stationed in Aldershot, reaching the rank of Lance Corporal.

In January 1938 he reverted to Trooper and joined the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars in Cairo, together with about 40 4th Hussars.

He took part in all the Regiment’s engagements in the Western Desert, and in N.W. Europe.

He was a Regimental Boxer and Cricketer and played Football.

He was a great Regimental character and will be missed by many.

He left the Regiment in November 1945 and was released in June 1946. He served on the Reserve until 1959.
