It was with surprise and great sadness that the Regiment learnt of the terminal illness of David (Brad).

LCpl D Bradley, QRIH

Given only a few months to live Brad would not be bowed by this cruel blow fate had dealt him, his wife Maria and their son David John.

The way he calmly applied himself to the task of completing his affairs at Regimental Duty and his refusal to be anything but cheerful speaks volumes for his courage.

Sadly Brad died on Friday 22 December 1989 at Blackpool.

He will long be remembered as a man of great humour and a true friend to many serving and non-serving members of the Regiment.

LCpl Bradley joined the QRIH in August 1968 at Sheffield and quickly established himself as a natural driver, a skill which was to serve the Regiment well and he was often seen behind the wheel of the Regimental Coach.

Nothing was ever any trouble to this happy hardworking soldier who could turn his hand to anything.

All reading this obituary, even if they did not know Brad, will know of a Brad somewhere. He was the type of person who is valued by all and his helpful and friendly attitude to everyone he met made lasting impressions on those around him.

Brad served with the Regiment in Great Britain, Germany, Cyprus and Canada, and in each location was a mainstay in setting up and running the Corporals’ Mess. A keen snooker player he always did well in the Dennis Hymes Trophy and many a families’ lunch were entertained by the tuneful and pleasing way he sang Country and Western.

Never in his life did this man turn anyone away, if it was a meal they needed it was provided, if it was a shoulder to lean on it was given.

Truly David Bradley will be remembered as a good man.
