Frank MacDonald died on the 30th July 2006 aged 80.
He enlisted in the General Service Corps on the 31st of October 1944 and did his basic military training with 17P.T.C. Upon completion of basic training, he transferred to the Royal Armoured Corps and served in the UK until the end of 1945 and then trained as a Driver/Mechanic. With 62nd Training Regt RAC.
Frank joined The 4th Hussars at Trieste in February 1946.
Prior to joining the Army Frank had been a lorry driver, this is reflected in his employment in MT Troop with the Regiment where he achieved quick promotion to Corporal and attended an MT Course at the Army MT School at Bordon in Nov/Dec 1946.
Frank served with the Regiment in Lubeck, BAOR, and was promoted to Sergeant. He returned to the UK with the Regiment in November 1947 and was discharged to the Reserve in March 1948.
Frank married Kathleen in September 1950 but she predeceased him in November 2005. They had two daughters.
Frank was a very keen golfer and in his post-service occupation, he was a landscape gardener (at one time running his own company) which sometimes involved the re-designing of golf courses one such was the ninth hole at the ever-famous Belfry Course.
