Charles died on 15 February 1990.

He joined the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars in April 1926 at York, aged 16 years.

In September he was posted to The 4th Queen’s Own Hussars who at that time were stationed in Muttra. He stayed in India with the 4th Hussars until they returned home in November 1930 and were posted to York.

He left the 4th Hussars in September 1937 going on to the Reserve.

He was mobilized on 1 December 1939 and was briefly posted to the 4th Cavalry Training Regiment.

He then joined The Staffordshire Yeomanry who at that time were in Palestine where they remained until December 1943, when they returned to the UK in preparation for the invasion.

He was promoted to Sgt in March 1941, SQMS in January 1944 and WO2 in April 1944.

In March 1945 he was posted to HQ 8th Armoured Brigade as SSM in the Headquarters where he was extremely well thought of.

In March 1946 he was posted to the Base Advance Depot. He was released in September 1950.

From 1950 until 1975 Charles was a member of the War Office Police and subsequently the MOD Police.

He was awarded the MOD Police Medal.
