Eric Gilbert Morris joined the 7th Queen’s Own Hussars on 12th September 1934.

The Regiment at this time was still part of the Cavalry of the Line and Eric would have started his military career on horseback. Mechanisation took place in 1936 and light tanks replaced the horses in the years before the outbreak of war.

Eric was one of the few 7th Hussars to fight in and survive all three of the major campaigns waged by the 7th : North Africa, Burma and Italy.

Uniquely he also served in North-West Europe to gain the France and Germany Star.

He landed in France on attachment to the Royal Armoured Corps on the 1st of July and continued to serve in Germany until December 1947.

He returned to the Regiment and served with them until 1958.

Eric was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II 1953 Coronation medal on the 2nd of June 1953.
