Jim joined the 8th Hussars in 1928 completing six years with the colours and then transferring to the reserve, he rejoined in 1939.

In 1947 he returned to the 8th Hussars having served throughout the war including being reported as missing in action and then as being taken prisoner of war in North Africa, he then was a prisoner for four years.

He served with distinction as a Troop Sergeant in ‘B’ Squadron, during the Korean campaign being one of the most senior Sergeants having then over twenty years service.

His Medals included the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, he left the Army in 1965.
