Robert Montagu Poore was born at Carysfort House, near Dublin, 20 March 1860, eldest son of Major Robert Poore, late 8th Hussars, and of Juliana Benita, daughter of Rear Admiral Sir Armar Lowry Corry, KCB.
George Holdsworth was born in September 1862 and educated at Eton and Cambridge.
Charles Herbert Rankin, was born 26 May 1873, second son of Sir James Rankin, 1st Baronet, and Annie Laura, second daughter of Christopher Bushell, JP, of Hinderton, Cheshire.
On 5th August 1985 at the age of 81 Major General Ralph Younger, Colonel of the 7th Hussars from 1952 and of The Queen’s Own Hussars from amalgamation to 1961 died.
Rex Hewer was educated at Bloxham School, where he was a member of the Officer Training Corps. He commissioned into the Royal Field Artillery on 12 October 1914, and saw active service in the First World War.
William Gibbs was born in 1877.
He was educated at Eton and Oxford and joined the 7th Hussars from University in February 1900. He served in the Boer War and took part in the long drives which finally captured the elusive Boer Commandos.
After wartime service with the 7th Hussars, covering the long retreat from Rangoon through Burma to India in 1942 and participation in the Allied advance in Italy in 1944-45, Patrick Howard-Dobson rose to command his regiment in the 1960s.
General Sir John Hackett, Colonel of The Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars from 1969 to 1975, died aged 86 at his home, Coberley Mill, on 9 September 1997.
Sgt C. Bunnett, D.C.M., M.M. served with the 3rd Hussars and the Royal Field Artillery. He died in February 1957.
Lt Col F. R. Burnside, D.S.O. served with the 3rd Hussars from 1900 until 1929. He died in 1957.
